Taino Music

Taino Indians

Tainos were pre- Columbian indigenous inhabitants of the Bahamas, and some Greater Antilles, and some of the Lesser Antilles. It is believed that the seafaring TaĆnos were relatives of the Arawakan people of South America. Their language is a member of the Maipurean linguistic family, which ranges from South America across the Carribean, and is thought to have been part of the larger, hypothetical group of Arawakan languages that would have spread over an even wider area." wikipedia

Heritage Reality

"Under Spanish sovereignty, the entire island bore the name Santo Domingo. Their relations with the Taino Indians, whom they ruthlessly maltreated, deteriorated from the beginning. Aroused by continued seizures of their food supplies, other exactions, and abuse of their women, the formerly peaceful Indians rebelled- -only to be crushed decisively in 1495." by Erick Claus
